What is a wooden skate?
What's in a name?
Yes, Virginia, there really is a wooden skate!
When the antiques business opened in 1973, and a unique identity was needed, the owners named it after one of their antiques that they had never seen duplicated: a wooden scooter-like item, with two wooden blades underneath, apparently for moving across the ice. So "Wooden Skate Antiques" was born, and with the growing prominence of the jewelry department, added the name "Wooden Skate Jewelry and Gems."
The actual wooden skate still hangs in the main shop, as unique as the business that bears its name.
